Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to leave my house? What about children, pets, asthma and pregnancy?
No, the new generation products we use have no odour and have a very low mammalian toxicity (not harmful to humans when used and applied correctly) so you do not have to leave your home. Some people such as pregnant women, young children, severe asthma sufferers and your pets might prefer to go outside whilst the interior is treated, but as we do not fumigate the spray dries very quickly and you can go back inside upon completion which depending on the size of the house might take 20-30 minutes. If you want full details of the chemicals that will be used, please see the links page and select the product for further information, or contact our office.
What is the difference between Pest Control Standard AS4349.3, which you use, and AS3660 other companies offer for termite inspections?
The difference is that AS4349.3 covers more. As well as inspecting for termites, we also inspect for wood rot and borers. Livermore & Son offer this as a standard inspection because we believe just inspecting for and reporting on termites is only doing part of the job. If there is evidence of borers or rot under your floor or in your roof wouldn't you want to know about it before the damage becomes more extensive and costly to repair?
Do you check in the roof and under the house?
Yes. We inspect the roof void, sub floor, the inside and outside of the house, any fences you have, retaining walls, decks or pergolas, garages, sheds and trees if applicable. Our technicians are trained and very experienced so are able to fit into and manoeuvre in very small spaces.
Are you still a family company or do you just still use the name?
We are still a family company. The present owner Ron is the son in law of Bruce Livermore who started Livermore & Son in 1949 and the company also employs two other family members on its team. We offer the latest products and technologies with old fashioned customer service and reliability.
What's so good about your technicians' abilities?
All our technicians are TAFE qualified, Workcover licensed and fully insured. In addition our inspectors have completed additional training for relevant chemicals, techniques, safety and specialist pests as shown on our employee listing page. All of which makes them a valuable asset to our company and our clients with a minimum of 17 years experience.
Why don't you use subcontractors?
Simply because we believe it is important for you to be able to trust the person who you allow into your home. This allows us to provide a consistent standard of service to our clients who are able to rely on our quality service and reputation. It also allows your technician to become familiar with the specific details of your property and the work that has been carried out over time.
It rained after my spray and I'm worried the treatment I paid for has been washed away.
There's nothing we can do about the weather, but don't worry we stand by our warranties. Generally if it rained after about 30 minutes after the spray all should be ok, but if you do notice any problems, call our office and we will arrange a technician will re treat all the problem areas for you.
What is the "Self Monitoring Option" for termite bait stations?
If you have had an Exterra termite baiting system installed, the infestation has been eliminated and the term of the contract is up, you have the option for us to continue to monitor the stations for you for an additional 12 months, or you can do it yourself for a much reduced cost.
If you do choose to monitor the stations yourself it is an easy process that you carry out each month of opening the stations, looking for any mud on the timbers and ticking the sheet to send back to us. Your technician will show you how to do this. If you have any problems or you find termites, just let us know and we will be able to assist you. We offer full support to clients who have selected this option, and if you are living at the property it is a great way to save money on termite monitoring.
Why don't you fill reticulation systems you didn't install?
Simply because if we cannot see the complete system, there is no way for us to know if it was installed correctly. Due to our concern for the environment and your family we will not charge a system that could be leaking, running into a drain, or not actually offering your home any protection.
I've found some strange insects, I put them in a jar can you tell me what they are?
Sure, drop them into our office, and if there isn't a technician there at the time, just leave it with our office staff with your name and number and we will call you back and let you know what they are. Please do not attempt to collect spiders, snakes, bees or wasps as these creatures can be very dangerous and depending on the species or your allergies even deadly.
This site provided by the CSIRO gives some information on identification of insect species - CSIRO - Insects and their Allies
